В статье исследуется современное состояние «народной лингвистики», анализируются ее истоки, развитие и ключевые методологические проблемы. Рассматриваются философско-методологические основания ее формирования; ведущими стимулами выступили преодоление структурализма и влияние гуманитарного сдвига. Прослеживается географическое распространение научной дисциплины, в том числе в Европе и Азии, а также различные подходы к определению «народа» (Д. Престон, М.-А. Паво). Особое внимание уделяется влиянию онлайн-коммуникации на «народную лингвистику» и возникающим парадоксам «наивного» информанта и проблемам валидности данных. В статье предлагаются возможности переосмысления потенциала «народной лингвистики» в условиях цифровой трансформации общества.
